JOB DESCRIPTION
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is recruiting Driver Operators to support road maintenance and infrastructure projects across multiple regions. These positions are responsible for operating both earthmoving and non-earthmoving equipment used in road construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation.
Successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring that provincial road networks remain safe, accessible, and well-maintained. The role requires individuals who are experienced in operating heavy machinery, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety standards are upheld at all times.
This is a large-scale recruitment drive offering opportunities across different cost centres and teams, making it ideal for candidates seeking stable government employment within the transport and infrastructure sector.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 10 (NQF Level 2)
- Valid Driver’s Licence Code EC with PrDP
- Operating Certificate / Departmental Competency (Pink Card) for specialised equipment
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience driving and operating specialised equipment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to read and write
- Good eyesight
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Knowledge of equipment operation and safety procedures
- Ability to interpret operating manuals and maintenance instructions
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Operate earthmoving and specialised machinery
- Transport work teams, materials, and equipment
- Load and offload equipment safely
- Conduct inspections and report mechanical defects
- Maintain logbooks and trip authorisations
- Perform minor mechanical repairs where necessary
- Ensure proper cleaning and lubrication of machinery
- Apply safety procedures at all times
- Assist with grading of gravel roads and maintenance work
