This 12-month opportunity is designed for young South Africans who are passionate about technology, cybersecurity, and information security. The programme forms part of Anglo American’s International Cybersecurity Early Careers Programme and offers practical workplace experience together with structured learning and certification preparation.

Successful learners will gain hands-on exposure within Anglo American’s Cybersecurity Operations team while developing technical and professional skills needed in the cybersecurity industry. Participants will also prepare for the globally recognised CompTIA Security+ certification during the programme.

Job Description

The Cybersecurity Learnership Programme will provide learners with practical exposure to different cybersecurity functions within a global working environment. Learners will work alongside experienced cybersecurity professionals and gain insight into how modern organisations protect systems, networks, and data from cyber threats.

Participants will be introduced to cybersecurity monitoring processes and learn how security teams identify potential risks and suspicious activities. Learners will also gain exposure to incident investigations and understand how organisations respond to cybersecurity threats and breaches.

The programme further includes exposure to Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI), where learners will assist with gathering and analysing information related to emerging cyber risks. They will contribute to basic threat reporting while learning how threat intelligence supports proactive cybersecurity defence strategies.

Learners will also gain introductory exposure to Digital Forensics. This includes understanding evidence collection, analysis processes, and forensic investigation methods used in cybersecurity environments. Training will be conducted under supervision to ensure proper and legally compliant procedures are followed.

Another important focus area of the programme is Human Cyber Risk and Awareness. Learners will support cybersecurity awareness campaigns aimed at promoting safer online behaviour among employees. They may assist with awareness materials, training activities, and analysing behavioural trends that may require additional education and support.

Throughout the programme, learners will participate in structured training sessions, study activities, and professional development workshops aligned with the CompTIA Security+ certification curriculum.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have completed Grade 12
• Mathematics and Science are required subjects
• Must have a strong interest in cybersecurity and information security
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly
• Good written and spoken English communication skills
