Overview

Central Johannesburg TVET College is inviting applications for six (6) Groundsman posts at the Central Office. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining buildings, gardens, and infrastructure to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment.

This role requires physically fit individuals who are willing to rotate across departments and sites according to operational requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• ABET / Standard 8 / Grade 10
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills
• Experience in gardening and cleaning environment will be advantageous

Inherent Requirements:

• Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects
• Willingness to rotate between departments and sites

Competencies & Knowledge

• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Knowledge of relevant facilities policies and procedures
• Knowledge of hygiene and equipment storage requirements
• Ability to use cleaning equipment and gardening tools
• Ability to operate relevant machinery and equipment
• Good communication skills (read, speak and write)
• Understanding of repetitive cleaning and maintenance tasks

Key Duties

Grounds & Garden Maintenance

• Irrigation and watering of plants and lawns
• Weeding, pruning and trimming plants
• Cutting, seeding and transplanting plants
• Mowing lawns
• Disposing of organic waste and composting
• Spraying and general plant care

Infrastructure Maintenance

• Maintain road markings and painted surfaces
• Clean signs and light fittings
• Maintain canals and buildings
• Sweep areas and maintain pavements
• Mix and lay cement for walkways and driveways
• Unblock drains
• Empty and clean waste bins
• Clean offices, classrooms, workshops, roads, pavements and greenhouses

Equipment & General Duties

• Care for equipment (cleaning, oiling, sharpening)
• Load and offload furniture
• Repair minor defects to furniture, tools and equipment
• Detect and report malfunctioning gardening equipment
