The New York Public Library (NYPL) seeks a Library Information Assistant to serve patrons of all ages at the Riverside Library. The successful candidate will be a creative customer service expert with a passion for helping people explore resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide circulation/reference service and instruction to library patrons using print, media, and digital resources.
- Answer questions from the public in person, over the telephone, and electronically.
- Perform community outreach to promote library services.
- Assist in planning and delivering library programs for children, teens, and adults.
- Instruct patrons on the use of the Internet, computer applications, and other Library services.
- Assist with fines and fees management, collection development, reserves, and opening/closing procedures.
- Ensure patrons follow library policies and procedures.
- May take responsibility for the facility, staff, and operations in the absence of the Library Manager.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with a strong, well-rounded liberal arts background.
Required Skills:
- Public service experience with diverse patronage.
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Teamwork and collaboration.
- Appreciation of literature and desire to encourage reading.
- Strong organization and planning skills.
- Computer and technology skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google applications, PCs, Macs, and e-reader devices.
- Knowledge of computer services, online searching, social media, and reference resources and databases.

- Physical Duties: Move and transport up to 15 lbs, remain in stationary position for periods of time, daily use of a computer.
